Jonathan Edwards was born in Connecticut in America. He was a gifted scholar having learnt Latin, Greek and Hebrew by the time that he was thirteen. He graduated when he was seventeen!
Soon after graduation he became a born-again Christian. He became an effective preacher during the time of the 1734-1744 revival, which was started by George Whitefield and William Tennant, amongst others. Thousands of people were converted during his preaching ministry.
In 1750 Edwards resigned from the church where he was the pastor and went out to evangelize the American Indians. He did this for seven years until he became the president of Princeton University. He died a year later.
